Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes

The intense winds of Death Valley create dunes that look like ocean waves, and are surprisingly popular with sand boarders and visitors with sleds. The smaller dunes make for easy hiking, and are often situated near a road for easy access. Reaching the larger dunes can be a multi-hour or all-day excursion due to the slow uphill progress on the soft sand.
