Sunset Over Catalina

The sunset sits on top of the silhouette of Catalina Island, which is roughly 29 miles off the coast, on this clear January evening at Balboa Pier. On my first visit to California I was captivated by the coastal sunset. There’s nothing quite as peaceful as watching the sun descent over the open ocean. Each day is different; clouds add colorful streaks on some evenings, while the clear sky takes on a fiery red color on others. Tonight’s unique feature was clarity. Catalina Island is often barely visible from the coast, but tonight it can be seen with no trouble at all.
